Continuing Medical Education Programs in Southwest Virginia
First started by Lewis-Gale Foundation in the late 1960’s with the Whitman lectures when Lewis-Gale was located in downtown Roanoke. In the 1970’s bimonthly conferences were begun and in 1982 Lewis-Gale Consortium was formed and accredited by the Medical Society of Virginia. The organization was formed with Lewis-Gale Foundation, Lewis-Gale Hospital and Lewis-Gale Clinic. These three organizations have remained the key components of what is now know as Continuing Medical Education Organization of Southwest Virginia. Other members are Edward Via School of Osteopathy, LewisGale Alleghany, LewisGale Montgomery and LewisGale Pulaski. Participating physicians earn continuing medical education credit of the American Medical Association necessary for Virginia licensure.
Health Focus coordinates CME for LewisGale Medical Center campus lectures held the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 am at LewisGale Medical Center. Lectures are open to all physicians and medical personnel in the valley and surrounding areas and are provided free of charge including meal.
